The one with the wardrobe malfunction.

A message came in from the care home for me to call the EMI unit. They’d like to chat with me about putting a lock on Nanny June’s wardrobe. “She’s washing her own dirty clothes, but not especially effectively. And then is putting them in the wardrobe, so getting the clean clothes dirty.“ They would like to manage this with a lock but want to talk to me about it first.

My reputation as Very Awkward Family member is clearly still going strong.

So a quick phone call and Nanny June is bolted out of her own wardrobe and has another fine layer of free choice removed.

This is a tough choice to consent to. I want freedom but not smelling of wee would be a priority to Nanny June. Nanny June was always a woman with a make up bag and jewellery at the ready. She remained in heels until her eighties until dementia and care staff insisted on a downgrade to wedges or Cuban heel.

When the message came through I was channeling a sixties gypsy vibe courtesy of my inherited collection of Nanny June’s pretty bangley janglies.
