The One With The Surprise Christmas
There aren’t many updates online anymore but there are visits.
There is visiting in silence.
There is trying to read the body language of an old lady who remains motionless in bed. Mainly quiet but occasionally with half broken mumbled chatter that reminds me of a toy when the batteries are almost done.
There is a view of the industrial Biffa Bins outside the bedroom window and where the odd care worker goes for a well earned fag break - something Nanny June wasn’t averse to herself from the age of 13 to 70 (allegedly).
There is an old frail lady who is turned every few hours, who is offered water every two hours and has a rotation of carers until Nanny June find one she ‘likes’ and will drink for.
There has been a care plan review meeting… again.
There are the bedsores, which as the staff nurse awkwardly put it have *pauses* ‘self healed’.
There is her body weight which has gone up, not down. Despite not eating but having nutritional shakes.
There is her status of being in ‘end of life’ care which has temporarily been revoked - although the ground gained, like the weight, will be easily lost.
There is this death defying living body which just won’t surrender.
There is the palliative care which goes on and on and on and on. Until it doesn’t. But until then…
There aren’t many updates on online but there are visits.
